About this project

The Creativity|WORKS project worked with six groups of children and young people from early years to age 25 yrs. The arts projects are linked in with their families and their communities and involved them in designing and developing projects that they themselves have identified as important to them. This publication, coordinated by nesa, consolidates the work produced during the project and raises awareness of the role of the arts in community development, regeneration and inclusion. The project has developed evidence to support the role that the arts and creative play can have in developing vibrant communities and demonstrates how the arts can assist local authorities to achieve engagement through the arts.

About this project

nesa obtained Media Box funding, supported by the DCFS, to develop their work with young people in the community. The project ‘Our Side of the Story’ uses digital media to enable young people to tell their personal and group stories, the results of which have been published into a book.

The book provides individual insights and ideas of the issues, concerns and experiences that young people wanted to express and represent. The texts including images, writings and drawings express the things that matter to young people and the important experiences of their own lives.

About this project

With young people of Bishop Sutton Youth Centre

The Water Memories Making History project engaged with young people in a rural youth club, involved them in setting up a Steering Group and nesa facilitated and supported them to roll out the project to a total of 200 young people across B&NES. The young people were empowered to take an increasing role in decision making. They used traditional arts and crafts and their local heritage to inspire the making of a range of contemporary artefacts such as willow baskets and ceramic pots. The documentation of the process was produced into a stunning publication of their work 'Water Memories Making History'.
