Our Side of the Story
nesa obtained Media Box funding, supported by the DCFS, to develop their work with young people in the community. The project ‘Our Side of the Story’ uses digital media to enable young people to tell their personal and group stories, the results of which have been published into a book.

‘People are like buttons. Different sizes, different colours, different shapes, different. Lauren Schofield’
The book provides individual insights and ideas of the issues, concerns and experiences that young people wanted to express and represent. The texts including images, writings and drawings express the things that matter to young people and the important experiences of their own lives.
From this project we can see that young people care deeply about some of the issues shared by adults, share the same concerns, fears and joys, passions and difficulties. Young people are working through the complex world that adults have created and we can learn a great deal from them. The stories in the book provide a wealth of meaning and inspirational insights.
In total 53 young people contributed towards the project which also received supported funding from Norton Radstock Town Council and Keynsham Town Council.
The project was facilitated by artist photographer Karen Dews and artist Andrew Henon, graphic designer Sue Fairhurst, with support workers and young people from Off the Record Young Carers, Mentoring Plus, Compass and Writhlington School.
