Storymaking and Creative Writing for the Over 60s
The Storymaking and Creative Writing project for the over 60s is a partnership project between nesa, Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership Trust (AWP), Age Concern, Midsomer Norton Library and Somer Valley FM to support elderly people with mental health problems.
The aim of the project will be to support the development of creative skills and community engagement through a 10 week creative writing and storytelling / drama project for participants over 60 years of age with mental health needs. They may be referred from Combe Lee Day Service, Midsomer Norton, Age Concern and the community. Every session will be supported by a AWP mental health worker.
The steering group are keen to develop opportunities within the local community for participants. These may include links with Somer Valley FM and participation by local school children, the local library and Age Concern. Participants will be supported to contribute to on-line learning resources about the course that can be shared with the wider community through the nesa website.
The project would like to address breaking down barriers of stigma and discrimination for older people with mental health issues and to promote and develop community and intergenerational links locally.
